Hearing Loss & Brain Development with Dr. Dan H. Sanes (NYU)

HRC Seminar Series

Dan-SanesDr. Dan Sanes from the Center for Neural Systems at New York University will be giving a virtual talk to the UF Hearing Research Center on November 30, 2020 (9:00 AM).

Talk title: How Early Hearing Loss Impairs Brain Development and Auditory Processing

Abstract: Hearing loss during early childhood can induce deficits in auditory perception, speech, and language skills. One explanation for this is that early hearing loss causes irreversible changes to the developing brain, thereby degrading auditory perception and learning. This presentation will explore evidence from basic research studies that support these concepts, and show that hearing loss-induced brain impairments can be reversed such that normal auditory skills are restored.
